Our People: Ghalesha Singh. she/her

Thanks again for supporting Koha Apparel and quite literally putting your body on the line. While you're not pulling a blue-steel look for Koha Apparel, what might we find you doing?
You will either find me doing one of three things:
1) At a hockey turf with my team (we have a pretty awesome community here where I spend most of my weekdays and weekend)
2) At a bar drinking some form of beverage with my friends (which arguably doesn't go hand in hand with the first one, but it's all about balance)
3) At my flat or parents house watching anime, having zero self-control while I snack on far too much baking (I'm somewhat of a bottomless pit).

What made you want to volunteer your time with Koha Apparel?
I have followed Koha for a long time! Volunteering my time to a group of people so dedicated to supporting and helping others who are in need of a hand, and promoting a consumer-style that is caring makes the decision very easy – You can always feel the good, honest, genuinity of the brand and the people that run it.

Koha Apparel's new e-commerce store will continue to be a pay-as-you-feel concept. Accepting Koha donations for the clothing. What were some of your favourite pieces from our 'new season'?
I absolutely loved all the pieces from the 'new collection' – it's so fun being able to have so many different styles gathered from many different people to look at! My all-time favourites had to be the funky patchwork straight cut jeans – truly a one-of-a-kind item, and the black jacket with the embroidered stitching along the sleeve – a piece you can chuck on over everything!

What would you say to encourage others to shop more sustainability?
The more of us that shop sustainability, the more we then teach others around us to do the same! Taking pride and care of what we do as consumers impacts many generations to come. We are told from a very young age to think about our futures and most of the time we live our lives around the concept – going to school so we can learn and find future work, finding work so we can support ourselves and future families and so on. For some reason, this idea of the 'future' stops when it comes to looking after our planet. Sustainable shopping, and shopping preloved or with brands that focus on quality means these items can live a long life and be passed from one loving owner to the next, reducing our waste – it's building a sustainable lifestyle now so that our future home and whoever inhabits it, has the same opportunities to enjoy it as much as we did.

What are some of your favourite places to shop?
I love thrifting! As alluded to above, I have an odd fascination with fabric and quality. This type of fabric I love comes from garments from the generation before me – I find these by running my hands through a clothing rack until I feel the material I like!
